In the fall of 2018, Burnham Associates began work on the $9,500,000 project to deepen Plymouth harbor channel to a controlling depth of -15′ MLLW and create an extension and turning basin in preparation for the Plymouth 2020 quadricentennial celebrations. The project also involves deepening the anchorage basin to a controlling depth of -8″ MLLW. Despite being the apparent low bidder and an SBA Small business, BAI did not have the work history to allow for immediate contract award, and obtained a certificate of competency through working closely with the SBA to obtain the contract award. Having secured the award in late September, 2018, BAI quickly secured subcontracts with AGM Marine Construction and Cashman Dredging and Marine Contracting to expedite the removal of over 200,000 CY during the first season of dredging, which came to a completion on January 31, 2019 due to environmental restrictions. By the end of the first season, BAI and their subcontractors had completed the channel, extension, turning basin, and 30% of the mooring field, putting the project ahead of schedule with approximately 275,000 CY removed. BAI returned to the project site in early October, 2019 to complete the dredging of the federal anchorage. Despite unprecedented adverse weather delays throughout October and November, BAI completed the project, including additional dredging in previously dredged areas which had naturally filled in throughout the summer months, before the closure of the 2020 environmental dredge window to the satisfaction of the USACE and the Town of Plymouth.
