In the summer of 2019, BAI engaged in a unique project for the towns of Scituate & Marshfield, restoring the entrance channel to the South River that was filled in due to severe winter storms which caused the partial collapse of Fourth Cliff. Challenges unique to this project were extreme tidal currents and dredge material consisting primarily of dense sand and cobbles. To address this difficult material, BAI utilized a prototype vibratory clamshell bucket, allowing for a greater capacity, lighter weight bucket to perform work typically reserved for smaller, heavier round nosed buckets. Initial impressions of this prototype were overwhelmingly positive. Throughout performance of this project, over 18,000 CY of material was removed and disposed of at the Massachusetts Bay Disposal Site.
