Burnham Associates, Inc. commissioned its newest spud barge, the Capt. T.S.P. Augustine (ex-JMC 151) in the summer of 2024. The 150’55’X9′ barge is equipped a Lima 2400B duty cycle crane with a 17 CY capacity clamshell. BAI’s largest and most advanced dredge plant has greatly expanded its production capacity and employs a number of novel concepts enhancing safety and efficiency. A large control station was constructed athwartship with panoramic windows and space for an on-site safety office allows captains and safety officers to keep watch over all deck activities. Remotely operated slewing winches and pneumatically actuated spud lifting towers allow for precision barge placement and compatibility with many different types of receiving barges such as split hull scows, pocket scows, hoppers or deck barges. The CAPT TSP AUGUSTINE successfully completed its first project, moving over 150,000 CY of improvement material to create a new deep water ship basin at the Quonset Development Corporation’s Port of Davisville to support its newly constructed Pier V expansion.
